Washington Spring Cleaning Car Care Tips
After a long Northwest winter, your car needs a little care! Here are a few items for the do it yourselfer!
- Give your vehicle a good hand wash in the Spring and take the time to check out the condition of your paint while you’re washing to see if you need to fill any paint chips before they rust.
- Spray in behind the wheels with a high pressure hose nozzle. The salt and dirt from the roads can accumulate here and cause rust. If you find any rust, tend to it.
- Your car’s paint is thirsty for a fresh coat of wax. Complete this on a warm, dry day.
- Check out your windshield for any new stone chips or cracks. If you find any cracks or chips, you can usually get them repaired. (You see the tents all over)
- Spring is a great time to replace your worn out wiper blades if necessary.
The INTERIOR
- Some roads in the Northwest are salted now. It’s not a bad idea to get the interior carpets shampooed to remove the salt so rust doesn’t form under the carpets.
- Clean off your dash with a vinyl cleaner to protect it from the sun’s UV rays.
- Wipe down all windows on the inside. It’s amazing how much grime can be on the INSIDE of the vehicle.
UNDER THE HOOD
- Time for an oil change? Check the air filter to ensure good gas mileage.
- Inspect cooling system hoses for leaks and drive belts for cracks. Any clicking or squeaking?
- Have your antifreeze tested or have your system flushed. It will help with Summer cooling.
CHECK YOUR TIRES
- Check your tire pressure. When the temperature warms, it can have an impact on the pressure in your tires. Having the proper tire pressure will ensure you get every mile from every drop of gasoline and prevent unnecessary tire wear.
- Check the condition of your tires. Did you run over any curbs or hit any nasty potholes this winter? Check for visible sidewall damages or bulging.
